Have you heard the phrase, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?” Get the inside scoop into Ryan’s Las Vegas family vacation and why Vegas could be a great trip for you!
A Las Vegas Family Vacation
- Context of the trip.
- Where they stayed.
- How they prepared (The Go Vegas Pass!)
- Their daily Vegas fun!
- Finding attractions in the casinos
- What it’s like for a family on The Las Vegas Strip
- Considerations, pros, and cons of a Las Vegas family trip
Go Vegas Pass
- Lots of options…unlimited to activity-specific.
- $106pp for 4 activities (we would have paid around $125).
- Allows you to skip lines.
Thursday
- Airport/Car Rental (Car rental center). The airport is very close to The Strip.
- Do you need a car? We did Uber even with having a car rented.
- Arrived mid-afternoon
- Walked The Strip
- Venetian for dinner (theming)
- The mall
Friday
Most important: When did we watch WandaVision?
- Work/conference in the morning (have space, internet vs. hot spots)
- Red Rock Canyon (National conservancy area, timed entry $15). Scenic loop with stops. General sightseeing to strenuous hiking. 20 minutes from The Strip, a world away.
- Freeds Bakery (Vegas cakes, kids liked that show)
- Avengers Station at Treasure Island (finding things in casinos)
- Movie in the room (build in quiet time, bring Roku, streaming device
Saturday
- Work/Conference in the morning
- Hunger Games Exhibit at MGM Grand
- Shopping
- The Strip was a bit crazier!
- Dinner (make reservations for “off times”)
- Ziplining at Linq Promenade (again, bypassed the line)
Sunday
- Hoover Dam (30 min outside Las Vegas)
- Tours were not open, but you could see the dam, wander around.
- Top of the Strat (Strat Casino), the largest observation tower in the U.S.
Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay
- Aquarium and Virtual Reality experience.
- It would have been part of the Go Las Vegas (along with other things).
Considerations, Pros, and Cons for a Las Vegas Family Vacation
- Especially if you are not there to do the obvious…you have to search things out.
- Plan your meals (open table, yelp
- COVID-19 effects: 25% capacity, reservations at everything (shows, dining), things are open. I did not account for this in planning!
- Very crowded (by corona capacity standards)
- Behavior (yep, it was there…but not as bad as I remembered it), Exposure to “stuff.”
- Many places still allow smoking.
Is this a family vacation location?
Yes, but…
- Plan ahead/know before you go
- Older kids
